Roof rehabilitation to close the Art Museum
Experience Frida Hansen's rugs
Visit the Stavanger Art Museum until March 15 and enjoy great works of art.
Unfortunately, the museum must close for roof renovations from Monday, March 16, and will remain closed until November 14.
We warmly welcome you until the closing.
Some highlights:
- Frida Hansen's large and beautiful rugs. Among them is the impressive rug "Sørover," which at the end of 2025 was purchased by the Christer Sveaas Art Foundation and thus secured for display at the Stavanger Art Museum for the coming years.
- The rug "Semper Vadentes" hangs in the so-called Frida Hansen room but will be taken down on March 2. Visit the museum before March 1 if you want to see "Semper Vadentes"! The rug will be loaned to an exhibition at Frederiksborg in Denmark along with the rug "Løvetand." Both will be part of the exhibition "Gobelin - In Tune with the Times," from March to September this year.
- "Hertervig's Mysteries," an encompassing exhibition based on Lars Hertervig's famous painting "Old Pine Trees."Here you enter the forest, hear the sounds, see the small creatures, and experience the calm of the ancient primeval forest painted by Hertervig.
- Kitty Kielland's landscape paintings
The critically acclaimed exhibition Proxies for Poets and Palaces, which among other things features Michael Rakowitz's recreations of now-destroyed cultural heritage from present-day Iraq.
The café and museum shop always have temptations to offer.
