Trond Borgen on Lars Hertervig
Trond Borgen has written a new book about Lars Hertervig and his local motifs from Stavanger.
In his new book, Borgen has compiled many of Hertervig's Stavanger motifs, pinpointing several that have previously been uncertain. He demonstrates how Hertervig's paintings serve as important historical sources for us today. Here, local history is combined with an art-historical analysis, while Borgen uses these motifs to showcase the greatness of Hertervig's art—how he evolved in an increasingly radical direction from the 1850s up until the turn of the century.
Additionally, Borgen interprets the motifs as expressions of Hertervig's visionary side and his unique treatment of light. It is here that Hertervig's groundbreaking artistic development is carried the furthest and with the greatest consequence.
The book presentation will be in Norwegian.
The book will be lauched in collaboration with the publisher Jæren Forlag.
